Dr. Greg Hu - President and CEO
Dr. Greg Hu co-founded the company in 2006 with Loring Laboratories Ltd., an ISO-certified company with over 40 years in lab testing services. As an experienced oil sands geologist, he noticed that the then existing lab processes were labour-intensive, slow and error-prone, and labs could not meet the oil industry's needs in terms of quality and turnaround time.
He invented a new lab workflow that significantly speeds up lab processes. After approaching existing oil sands labs without success to integrate his new workflow, Dr. Hu decided to start his own lab – a next-generation, technology-orientated oil sands speciality lab. Under his leadership, Loring Tarcore Labs Limited became a well-established brand in oil sands core testing and its business has grown significantly since its inception.
Dr. Hu has over 25 year of experience in the oil industry. He has held positions of geologists, Project Geologist, Exploration Manager and VP – Exploration with Petro-Canada, Value Creation Inc. and Alberta Oilsands Inc., respectively. He has provided geological consulting services to major oil companies, including ConocoPhillips Canada, Chevron Canada, Total, among others.
Dr. Hu has Ph.D. in geology from the University of Western Ontario as well as M.Sc. and B.Sc. in geology. He is a member of The Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), Canadian Heavy Oil Association (CSOA), and The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
He currently chairs the Heavy Oil & Oil Sands Division of CSPG and was the chair of the Basin Analysis and Sequence Strategraphy Division of CSPG (2001-2003).
